A honky-tonk hangout and a taste of Mexico

Rocco Mangel started his restaurant career as a busboy while Dale Earnhardt, Jr. has gone from being the ‘Pied Piper’ of Daytona International Speedway to a serial restaurant owner.

The pair gathered at Fort Lauderdale International Airport recently for the openings of Rocco’s Tacos and Tequila Bar and Dale Jr’s Whisky River, both operated by global restaurateur HMSHost and its partner MasterConcessionAir.

The restaurants promise to be vibrant additions to the culinary scene at the Florida airport. Dale Jr’s Whisky River captures the “signature honky-tonk hangout vibe” that the chain is known for, according to HMSHost, while offering a “high-quality but casual” menu” and a programme of music.

The opening of Rocco’s Taco’s and Tequila Bar is the brand’s first in an airport and aims to provide an authentic taste of Mexico. Molcajetes that are served sizzling in a traditional lava rock are offered alongside street style tacos and more than 70 tequilas from the country.

Rocco’s Tacos and Tequila Bar: “This venture is and will continue to be a thrilling chapter in our story,” says restaurateur Rocco Mangel
