Planet, Ethics, People, Social Program – Lagardère Travel Retail

PEPS (Planet, Ethics, People & Social) is the Paris-based travel retailer’s hugely ambitioius, long-term, science-based, cooperative and transparent sustainability strategy, structured around the four PEPS pillars.

The company’s commitments under the Planet pillar include:

  • Reduce carbon emissions to contribute to ambitious industry targets
  • Reduce waste
  • Promote responsible packaging and disposables.

It illustrated these to the judges through anti-waste and recycling programmes in France via its Relais H Café brand, with Bean & Beyond in the UAE and composter technology in the Czech Republic.

Its Ethics commitments range from developing local food and products sourcing and promoting responsible products and ingredients to cultivating ethical behaviour.

Its key People commitments centre around ensuring security and well-being at work, promoting employee engagement and fostering diversity and equal opportunities, demonstrated via case studies from Poland and Switzerland.

Social commitments include supporting local communities, encouraging and facilitating volunteering and leveraging the network to make donations.

Examples shown in its entries included locally sourced wood for furniture at Képar Café, Senegal, which performs a strong community function, and an initiative in Poland to support elderly people, via strong cooperation with local foundations and centres.
